Nearly half of new coronavirus infections in the U.S. are in just five states.
According to Johns Hopkins University, New York, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey together reported 44% of the nation’s new COVID-19 cases in the latest seven-day period.
That accounts for about 198,000 new cases.
The new numbers have prompted some health experts and elected officials to call for the Biden administration to ship additional vaccine doses to those places.
Currently, the White House’s policy of dividing vaccine doses among states is based on population.
