On Friday, President Joe Biden will announce a $4 billion U.S. commitment to the global vaccine alliance known as COVAX, aimed at helping poor countries inoculate their populations, according to a senior administration official.
Biden is expected to make the announcement during a virtual meeting of G-7 leaders about the pandemic.
A senior White House official told reporters that Biden will now “get the opportunity as president of the United States early in his term to declare that America is back and the transatlantic alliance is back.”
Also Friday, the U.S. will officially rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement.
The United States have surpassed 100 million cases of the coronavirus with over 2 million people deaths.
